The Projects
Ester
Based out of Ester, 5 miles west of Fairbanks, in Interior Alaska, is a farm and ecological center whose mission is to encourage local, ecologically based food production and environmental awareness through experiential education in natural and farming ecosystems. Volunteers work collaboratively with local organizations to provide hands-on educational and research opportunities in ecology and sustainable agriculture for children, college students, local community members.

Homer
Located in Homer, known as the halibut capital of the world, this project takes place on the beautiful bank of Kachemak Bay, a sheltered arm of lower Cook Inlet, and is easily accessible by land, air or sea. There are two options within this project: volunteers will either be working with an environmental education group or the historic Pratt Museum.

Juneau
Alaska's capital city, Juneau is located in Southeast Alaska. Also situated within the Tongass Rainforest climate provides Juneau with lush terrain and vibrant wildflowers. The volunteer projects in Juneau deal mainly with research and monitoring regarding bears, regional amphibians, and the ancient trees of the forest.

Kodiak
The Kodiak Island Archipelago is a large group of islands about 30 miles off the coast of Alaska. The archipelago is about 177 miles long and encompasses nearly 5,000 square miles. Considered �Alaska�s Emerald Ilse� because of its lush green terrain, Kodiak is a unique Alaskan experience. Here volunteers will work with the Park Service and The Alutiiq Museum on various projects ranging from trial maintenance and cleanup to an archaeological dig.

Palmer
Forty-Two miles northeast of Anchorage, Palmer is located in the center of the lush farmlands of the Matanuska Valley. Just a few miles outside of the town is a farm comprised of 20 acres of land on the floor of a glacial valley. 4 acres are cleared for cultivation, and are protected by a 6' electric moose fence, where over 50 vegetable varieties are grown and cut flowers are raised beds. Harvest becomes the primary activity in late August and September, along with garden clean up. Volunteers will be working on projects dealing with the harvest as well as all of the other aspects of the farm.

Sitka
Sitka is a sea-side town situated on the South-Eastern panhandle of Alaska surrounded by the largest temperate rainforest in the world: the Tongass National Forest. In Sitka, volunteers will have the opportunity to work with an environmental project committed to protecting The Tongass National Forest, participating in field projects as well as working in an office environment. Volunteering with project is a great way to learn firsthand how �on the ground� grassroots conservation activism happens. Volunteers will learn about land management politics, conservation science, and environmental advocacy, while helping to organize community support for wildlands protection.

Soldotna, located just 140 miles via scenic, paved highway from Anchorage, is the central hub of the Kenai Peninsula.
