Stop Child Poverty Action Tour

Are you curious about what our volunteers are doing in Africa? Do you want to make a lasting difference to children abroad and be influential in our 'Stop Child Poverty Campaign?' Well now's your chance. Join our Stop Child Poverty Action Tour.

GVN is offering a 10 day tour of our projects in Kenya, and Uganda. You will have the opportunity to visit our projects and see what our volunteers are doing to end child poverty in Africa.

When you arrive to Kenya we will take you through the world's largest slum, Kibera. You will visit our schools/orphanages there and visit with our present GVN volunteers. While in Kenya we will take a couple days out for a 3 day safari in the Maasai Mara, outside of Nairobi. From Kenya we will fly to Uganda where we will visit our volunteer projects around Kampala. This will include GVN Foundation's sponsored school for HIV/AIDS orphans in Buloba, Uganda. Finally we will end our trip with a game viewing expedition in Uganda. At the end of the trip you will not only have gained a first hand account of the struggles of children in poverty in Africa, but we will also give you a Stop Child Poverty Action guide. This guide will help you motivate and educate your community at home upon your return.

Globally 30,000 children die every day due to preventable causes/diseases. Join us in our fight to make that statistic non-existent.

About the Stop Child Poverty Campaign

In 2000, leaders pledged their support to reduce extreme poverty during the United Nations Millennium Summit. The resulting UN Millennium Development Goals established a timeline for the world to work to reduce extreme poverty by 2015. Six of the eight Millennium Goals explicitly target children. The Millennium Development Goals are:
  • 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  • 2. Achieve universal primary education
  • 3. Promote gender equality and empower women
  • 4. Reduce child mortality
  • 5. Improve maternal health
  • 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
  • 7. Ensure environmental sustainability
  • 8. Develop a global partnership for development
Each country present at the summit agreed to do their share by increasing the amount of aid given to developing countries to 0.7 percent of their national income to help reach these goals.

Working at the grassroots level, the goal of the Stop Child Poverty campaign is to create a community of world citizens who are actively engaged in urging governments to comply with the Millennium Goals. Raising global awareness about the plight of impoverished children, and urging concerned individuals to become directly involved through volunteerism and support of local projects, can accomplish this goal.

The Stop Child Poverty campaign's Big Push works to directly appeal to governments to meet their obligations to children. By joining the Stop Child Poverty Action Tour on our tour of Africa you will not only gain valuable first hand knowledge of the trails the World's children face every day, you will also:
  • Learn how to make a difference at home in your own community
  • See how your donation fee will assist children in Africa
  • Form relationships with other socially conscious people within the team
  • Stand up for children who have no voice of their own
