GVN Changemakers Training Program

"The will to effect change is worthless without the will to prepare" - Colin Salisbury (GVN Founder)

Colin Salisbury founded the Global Volunteer Network (GVN) in December 2000 after spending time volunteering in Ghana, West Africa, and noticing the tremendous difference volunteers could make in helping local organizations achieve their goals in the communities they were working with.

Since then, the Global Volunteer Network has experienced incredible growth. They now work with local partner organizations in over 19 countries worldwide, largely in Africa, Asia, and Central/South America, to connect volunteers with communities in need. Last year, GVN placed over 2000 volunteers worldwide, and is hoping to increase this to 2500 volunteers in 2006.

Want to become part of this worldwide effort? Want to learn more about how to start non-profit, NGO work yourself?

The GVN Training program was created with the aim of empowering participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, support and confidence to achieve their own goals of effecting change around the world.

.: The Program

The GVN Training program, part instruction and part work experience, is designed for people interested in learning more about all aspects of the type of work GVN does. Whether this is creating a non-profit NGO, learning more about international business and volunteering, or gaining more practical experience in development studies, this internship provides a chance to put your ideas and knowledge into action and gain invaluable hands-on experience for the future.

Further, it is the goal of this program that even after participants complete their internship at GVN, they will maintain contact with the organization and GVN can assist them in the future as they continue their careers in the NGO, non-profit sector.

The GVN Training program uses a range of different learning styles and is flexible enough to allow each participant to explore their individual goals. The internship program covers the following areas:
  • International social enterprise
  • International volunteering
  • Community development, on both a local and worldwide scale
  • Leadership and team management
  • Project development
  • Personal development
  • Fundraising and resource development
  • Running campaigns
  • Marketing and communication
Please note: College credits are available through some colleges/universities. We will work with you to accommodate this if it is possible to gain credits through your school.
