About the Nepali Children's Fund
The children of Nepal need your help. Our partner in Nepal has created numerous successful volunteer programs to help the people of Nepal but more work needs to be done to address the specific needs of children. The three areas your funds will assist are:
1. Orphanages
Orphanages do not have nearly enough money and many of these establishments are in a terrible state of disrepair. These under-funded orphanages are not able to provide children with quality care.
Part of the funds raised from this trip will go to needy orphanages in and around Kathmandu. The funds will provide children in orphanages with: new furniture and bedding, new school uniforms, nutritious food, and quality healthcare.
2. The building of an orphanage
Our partner in Nepal plans on building a suitable orphanage for 15 children in their care. The current, rented, facility does not adequately cater to their physical, cultural and psychological needs. A portion of the Mount Everest Base Camp Hike donations will support the building of this orphanage in the village of Bistachap, 25 kilometers SE of Kathmandu.
3. Assistance to sexually assaulted minors
In Nepal there is little or no assistance available to sexually abused minors or their families. As the insurgency gains momentum more children are being displaced, left unprotected and ultimately subjected to sexual assault. The number of sexually assaulted minors continues to rise while the counseling/rape assistance resources are diminishing. These two issues combined mean a growing population of sexually assaulted minors have absolutely no legal/medical assistance.
In an effort to address this need the Global Volunteer Network will give a portion of the funds raised from this trip to a local Nepali NGO working to provide psychological support and counseling services to young victims of assault. This group plans to open a "Psychological Care and Support Center" in Kathmandu. This center will house, counsel and rehabilitate 12 minors at a time.
The money you raise from this hike will not only give you the once in a lifetime opportunity to hike to the base camp of Mount Everest, it will also help feed, house, and protect Nepali children.
Please note: GVN/VSN reserves the right to determine the dissemination of funds. Any funds raised for A4A will be allocated to community building projects determined by A4A.
